Northern
Lights in Iceland
AURORA HUNTING GUIDE Hi, I'm Olivier. I'm an aurorahunter but also a stormchaser. I live in Switzerland and travel often to Iceland. Want to see the northern lights for sure ? Not just counting on luck ? There are lots of cloudy days and nights in Iceland. Many tourists miss seeing the northern lights due to poor weather and not doing what it takes to be in cloudfree area at night. We find clear skies - we see aurora. I don't stay local and just hope for clear skies. I tour around the country to find clear skies. Anytime
from September to April.

Iceland is located right next to the auroral oval's centerline. Aurora happens very often here. Even on nights with low activity. But there are often lots of clouds. Many people don't see aurora because of clouds. Don't just hope for clear skies ! We go find them ! When 80% of Iceland is under clouds, we'll target the 20% cloudless zone. Once we find clear skies we're almost certain to see some aurora. Check out my images on Facebook, Twitter and the videos. |
